Josh Gad shares a heartbreaking last text from Marshall co-star Chadwick Boseman. The Black Panther star passed away yesterday after a private four year battle with colon cancer. While Boseman was best known for his role as King T’Challa in the MCU, the actor had also portrayed several African-American historical figures throughout his acting career, from Jackie Robinson in 2013’s 42 to James Brown in Get On Up in 2014.

Boseman portrayed the first African-American Supreme Court justice Thurgood Marshall in the 2017 film Marshall. Gad co-starred with Boseman in the film, playing Sam Friedman, a lawyer who teamed up with Marshall in one of the future Supreme Court justice’s first legal cases. Boseman was praised for his performance in the film, earning him a NAACP Image Award nomination for Outstanding Actor in a Motion Picture in 2018. He would end up winning the same award one year later for after being nominated for his performance in Black Panther. Boseman made a touching post to Gad in 2018, captioning it with, “When they made Josh Gad they broke the mold. There’s few people better to have in your corner. Happy birthday my friend!” and now, Gad has shared another one of Boseman’s touching messages.

Gad made a heartfelt Twitter post in tribute to Boseman, sharing the last text Boseman sent him before he passed away. The text, which Boseman titled, “Catch the Rain,” is utterly heartbreaking in hindsight, but also indicative of Boseman’s genuine appreciation of the little things in life. Boseman’s final text to Gad is incredibly inspiring. Tributes across the world have been pouring in to the late actor. Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige released a moving statement in honor of Boseman. Many fans are also remembering Boseman’s appearance on The Tonight Show back in 2018 where Boseman surprised Black Panther fans after they said how much the film meant to them. It’s absolutely incredible that Boseman was not only able to star in some incredible films that still inspire people to this day, but also the fact that he was able to demonstrate a genuine dedication to fans in spite of his own personal health struggles.

Boseman left an incredible legacy, not only with Black Panther and his other films like Marshall, but with his actions as a human being outside of the acting world. Fans across the world should take a page from Boseman’s book and take a moment to take a deep breath and catch the rain. Boseman made the most of his life. It’s sad that fans won’t be able to see more work from this incredible actor, but his legacy will live on. Chadwick Boseman may have played a superhero on screen, but in many ways, he was a hero to many in real life as well.
